1. Check and fix any water leaks, every drop really does add up.
2. Install water-saving devices on your faucets and toilets.
3. Don’t brush your teeth with the tap running.
4. Don’t wash dishes with the water running continuously.
5. Wash and dry only full loads of laundry and dishes.
6. Close your taps properly, it all adds up.
7. Follow your community’s water use restrictions or guidelines.
8. Replace old toilets with new ones that use a lot less water.
9. Turn off washing machine’s water supply to prevent leaks.
10. Have your septic tank pumped and system inspected regularly.
11. Check your car for oil or other leaks, and recycle motor oil.
12. Take your car to a car wash instead of washing it in the driveway, commercial car washes are more water efficiently.
13. Learn about your watershed area and don’t dump anything down storm water drains.
14. Use your “grey” water – the water from your washing machine and bath can water your garden.
15. Water the garden in the morning (or evening) to reduce evaporation and re-vegetate or mulch disturbed soil as soon as possible.
16. Get a handy low-flow showerhead – cutting bathing water use by 50 to 70%.
